Concrete Decking Options
Broom Finish Concrete The workhorse. Affordable, durable, easy to maintain and easy to match if you extend later.
Stamped Concrete Concrete pressed with a pattern to read as stone, slate or wood plank. You get the look of premium material at a lower cost.
Stained and Colored Concrete Integral color, acid stain and dyes. Lighter colors matter more here than most places, because a dark deck in an Odessa July is genuinely painful.
Cool Deck and Textured Overlays Applied surfaces designed to run cooler underfoot and add texture for grip.
Stone Pool Decks
Natural stone is the best looking pool decking you can buy, and in West Texas it's also the most comfortable. Stone stays noticeably cooler than concrete in direct sun. On a 105 degree afternoon that's the difference between walking across your deck barefoot and hopping across it.
It also handles our temperature swings well, and when a piece does get damaged you replace that piece instead of resurfacing the whole deck.
Travertine Light colored, naturally cool, and the most popular premium decking we install. French pattern and paver formats both look excellent around a pool.
Flagstone Irregular natural stone with a rugged look that suits Texas landscapes. Great for freeform pools and blending into rock work.
Oklahoma and Texas Stone Regional stone that ties into local architecture and native landscaping.
Stone Coping Even if you keep concrete decking, stone coping around the waterline upgrades the entire look for a fraction of a full stone deck.

Get The Size Right Too small and there's nowhere to put chairs. Too big and you've got a concrete field. We plan around where furniture actually goes.
Plan The Drainage Bad slope sends water toward the house or pools in low spots. Drainage gets designed before the pour, not patched after.
Think About Heat Surface temperature is a real decision here, not a detail. Color and material choice make the difference between usable and unusable in summer.
Build The Joints Correctly Control joints placed properly are why one deck cracks in a straight line where you expected it and another cracks across the middle.

Installation Done Right
Stone is only as good as what's under it. We prep and set properly, get the slope right for drainage, and use the correct setting materials so pieces don't lift or shift a few summers in. Cheap stone installs fail in the same predictable ways. Ours don't, because we've been doing this for fifty years.
New Deck Or Deck Replacement
We pour and lay decks for new pool builds, and we replace old decking on existing pools. If your current deck is spalling, cracked or separated from the coping, replacement usually costs less than repeated repairs.

Q: Can you replace just the deck and leave the pool alone?
Yes. Deck only projects are common.
Q: What's the coolest decking option?
Natural stone like travertine, followed by light colored textured overlays. Dark concrete is the hottest.
Q: Is stone decking slippery when wet?
Tumbled travertine and natural flagstone both have good wet grip. Polished stone would be slick, which is why we don't use it around pools.
Q: Does travertine need sealing?
Sealing helps with staining and is worth doing. We'll cover maintenance at handover.
Q: Can I add stone over my existing concrete deck?
Sometimes, depending on the condition and elevation of the existing slab. We'll tell you after we look.
Q: How long does a deck take?
Usually one to two weeks including cure time, depending on size and finish.
